About
Alejandro Felix Architecture was established in 2022, with a design approach focused on understanding and respecting the local context of each project, both socially and physically. Rather than being tied to a particular style, it is defined on a case by case basis, aiming to uncover and enhance the unique potentials that each project offers, whether it is an object, a room, a building, or a part of the city. The practice is currently focused on projects with an emphasis on refurbishing and repurposing of existing buildings as well as new constructions.
Alejandro Felix grew up in Mexico City and studied architecture at Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona. After graduating, he moved to London to work for Adjaye Associates. Two years later, he joined David Chipperfield Architects, recipient of the 2023 Pritzker Prize. As part of the team, Alejandro worked on a diverse range of projects such as the new Southwest Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the conversion of the Eero Saarinen-designed American Embassy in London into a world-class hotel, and a mixed-use high rise scheme in London among others.
In 2018 he transferred to David Chipperfield Architects' Shanghai office as the project leader of Shanghai’s former City Hall building redevelopment. The 67,000m² project consisted in refurbishing the symbolic building and constructing a series of extensions and new buildings to give a new life to the urban block and create a coherent ensemble. During his time in China, he also led various projects such as the refurbishment of a 1960’s modernist building in Ho Chi Minh City, a cultural retail building for K11 in Shenzhen, and the Hainan Provincial Museum of Art.
