The Shenzhen Prince Bay masterplan presents a wide mixture of uses characterized by high-rise office and residential towers over commercial podiums along a seafront promenade. The new K11 Art Space is envisioned as a continuation of the promenade as well as a connector to the K11 shopping mall to the south. A wide pedestrian bridge creates an elevated connection between the public promenade, the new art space, and the shopping mall, extending the public realm both vertically and into the building’s interior.
Three rectangular volumes are arranged around a public central atrium space that gathers the vertical circulation of the building and provides permeability throughout the entire site, offering a covered route from east to west and from north to south. A series of slabs originate from the promenade and extend into the volumes, connecting the different programs and creating terraces and entrances. In this way, the building offers various shaded outdoor spaces with expansive sea views that allow for spill-out opportunities for the interior spaces.
